My teaching experience of 10 years ranges from: group teaching to peripatetic lessons and private tuition. I also teach composition, theory (classical and jazz), music technology, GCSEs, A Levels and improvisation.
I’m known as a very relaxed and fun teacher by my students, and aim to get the best out of those I teach. I take their education very seriously, and keep very detailed records of their progress and send thorough reports each term. Students can take grades if they wish in piano/keyboard, these are nationally recognised qualifications and the higher grades are worth UCAS points; but I also teach students who want to play for pleasure, and don't pressure students to take grades.
I take pride from the fact that all my students become knowledgeable enough to compose their own pieces, have a thorough understanding of music theory and enough technique to approach the pieces that they want to play. This also means they can take grades later on if they wish to, as they will have the required technique and knowledge.
All my students also have the opportunity to record any of their pieces onto CD as I produce and record musicians and bands.
